With the motion of a wing spreading out, the feathers rise first, followed by the bird’s down. But the movement is abruptly and brutally cut short by a bright red rectangle.
The red rectangle is opaque and obscures the bird’s body. An image of a peacock caught by a dog in the Arava valley was imprinted on the artist's memory, and the cruel death that interrupted the flight is distilled here in the red rectangle.
