Still-life paintings often depict wealth and affluence, the beauty of objects, or the blossom of nature. The paintings' considered composition allows for a profound examination of the objects and their meaning, yet those paintings are powerful because of the secrets they conceal.
In Akta's still-life painting, pain and beauty are interlinked. They hold a terrifying mystery: what has become of the woman who hung her gown on a barbed wire, and what has caused this union of delicate fabric and thorny wire.
