Mirit Cohen Caspi
Untitled (detail) Synthetic gauzes computer prints, linen threads,190x50 cm., 2011
This work is part of a group of works called: Nature Centers into Balls (from Circles by Ralph Waldo Emerson). Cohen Caspi created in this series of works simulating maps and archaeological finds. The graph paper forms a rational, orderly background on which new affinities may emerge between familiar images, such a bird, or a marble. The images are tied together by a set of wheels juxtaposed with archaeological landscapes and mounds spawned by means of discrete photographic frames. The result is a private archaeology which reflects psychic and mental processes, seeking new links. The artist charts familiar as well as concocted visual materials to generate a new world map.
