(part 2), Contemporary Art from The Caribbean in Amersfoort. In the work of Wendell McShine you find figures with ambiguous sexual identity spread over the wall in different sizes. Some of them are drawn in sharp lines some of them done from paper cuts. The figures look like they are oscillating between children drawings and sophisticated pictograms. Their features remind me of the desperation you can find in the works of the German Expressionists. More than that, their bodies recall Erich Heckel’s, the contrast of black and white remind me of Ludwig Meidner’s work and their distorted proportions make one think of Max Beckmann.
